Update on Eco-Resort Development on Spit

To refresh your memory, this summer a Conditional Use Permit was sought from Tillamook County by the owner of a 53-acre parcel located just south of the second gate at the northern end of the Bayocean spit.  As part of the approval process Tillamook County determined the eco-resort application was “complete.”  This means that all of the Review Criteria were addressed for a Conditional Use permit.  It does not, however, mean that the permit was approved or likely to be approved.

Safe Drinking Water

E. Vallianatos worked at the EPA for 25 years and has written a book entitled Poison Spring in which he details the methods used by that agency in setting safety standards under the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act.  He will be speaking at the Bay City Arts Center, on October 14, 7 PM.

Conditional Use Application for Spit Development Deemed Complete

On September 8, 2014 residents of Cape Meares were informed of an application being submitted to the Tillamook County Planning Division for the development of an eco-resort on the Bayocean spit.The Planning Commission has deemed the Conditional Use application complete since it addressed all six of the criteria necessary for a permit.  A copy of the application has been posted on the Tillamook County website.  Click on the link found below to view it.

Nextdoor Progress Report

So far the campaign  to encourage Cape Meares full-time and part-time residents to sign up for Nextdoor is going well.  On Tuesday evening Merilee Sommers invited 140 people from Cape Meares  to join with the idea that Nextdoor might serve as a directory for residents and make it easy to learn who your neighbors are and how you might contact them when the need arises.  The tally of those who have joined reached 56 after only two days.  This represents about a 40% response rate.  We hope the number of residents who will be using this resource will continue to grow in the coming days.
