Pete Steen is one of the Map Your Neighborhood Captains for Cape Meares. For the past couple of years he has asked interested members of the Seaview neighborhood that he patrols to write an imaginary scenario of what might have happened to them if the earthquake had indeed arrived at 10:20 AM on October 20, the day set aside as the Great Oregon Shake-Out day. This year (2016) he did not ask his neighbors to do this but he did write a scenario himself. Click on the link below to view a PDF of his scenario.
Cape Meares residents are serious about emergency preparedness. This is just one example to illustrate efforts to promote this ongoing effort.
Each year the Oceanside Water District prepares a Consumer Confidence Report related to the status of the district and the water that you drink. This report became available today. Click on the link below to review a PDF of the document.
At the Sunday, January 31, CMCA Board meeting a report that described the response of Cape Meares residents to the back-to-back winter storms was discussed.
On Thursday I hoped on my bicycle during a break in the rain and headed for the blow-out on Bayocean Road that cut us off from access to Bayocean Road. Along the way I stopped to capture some of the damage caused by the multiple landslides along Bayocean and the other spots where I thought a picture might help us all understand the extent of the storm damage.
One of the requirements of a 501(c)(3) association is to file an Annual Report. Since CMCA achieved this status last September, your Board members prepared a report for residents to review. This is a “Draft” document and will be approved at our August meeting. If you have questions or wish to offer comments please contact any of the Board members listed in the document.
No, this is not a request for a donation. Instead it’s an appeal for you to attend a workshop meeting of the Tillamook County Board of Commissioners (BOC).
When: Thursday, April 9, 2015, 3-5 PM Where: Tillamook County Court House, Conference Room B
The BOC will be considering a request to rezone all properties on the Bayocean Spit that have a RM (Recreation Management) classification to RN (Recreation Normal).
The developer of the proposed resort on Bayocean Spit did not appeal the Tillamook County Planning Commission denial of his Conditional Use Permit application. He had until yesterday (Jan 21st) to appeal to the County Commissioners and no appeal was filed. While this proposal is now dead, it does not mean the spit is protected — the developer can still propose other schemes to try to meet zoning requirements. It does, however, give us an opportunity to find a more comprehensive and permanent protection for this wonderful resource.
Public testimony at the January 8, 2015 meeting of the Tillamook County Planning Commission raised questions regarding fire protection on the Bayocean Spit and a response to any medical emergencies that may occur there. This testimony, in turn, raised questions among Cape Meares residents regarding the accuracy of the testimony.
