Outcome of Planning Commission Meeting

decision

The Tillamook County Planning Commission met last evening (January 8, 2015)  to consider the proposed use of a 53 acre plot on the Spit that is owned by Bayocean LLC.

This meeting had been continued from November because the owner of Bayocean LLC was not present.

Another request for a continuance by Bayocean LLC was tabled after nearly an hour of discussion.  The Planning Commission then agreed to listen to a proxy for the owner of Bayocean LLC make a presentation for the land use which deviated significantly from the original proposal that had been sent to the Planning Commission more than six months ago.

The Planning Commission listened to extensive testimony for nearly the next 90 minutes, all of which was opposed to the proposed eco resort. At approximately 11 PM on Thursday, January 8, members of the Planning Committee decided to NOT support the proposed conditional use of the land.  Vote was four in favor and one absention.

The owner of Bayocean LLC may appeal this decision to the Tillamook County Board of Commissioners and beyond if he is rejected again by the commissioners.

A group of dedicated residents of Cape Meares worked hundreds of hours and spent over $400 to prepare a report that was shared with the Planning Commission regarding concerns for building the eco resort.  For those in the community who are also opposed to this kind of land use you owe them a debt of gratitude for the work they did.
