Preparing for the “Big One”

wakeup

On January 13, six residents from Cape Meares attended the Tillamook County Citizen Corps Council meeting and listened to two excellent presentations that should be of interest to everyone who lives along the Oregon coast and especially to those of us who either live permanently in Cape Meares or are part-timers and own own property here.

The first of the presentations was one that Ms. Liane Welch gave to the approximately 30 individuals from Tillamook County who attended.  A copy of the slides she used during her presentation is attached and can be accessed by clicking on the link below.  For viewing this PDF you will need to have a free reader installed on your computer. This is a farily large file and will require a bit of time to download.

The second of the presentations was recently added to the capemeares.org website and can be located under the Emergency Preparedness tab in a document called “Tsunami.”To make it easy to locate this document simply click on the link below and you will be taken to this site.
George Priest who is with the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries was the presenter and provided excellent information regarding tsunamis. One of the missions of your CMCA is to provide educational information regarding topics that will likely be of interest to community residents.  Our community is ably led by our emergency preparedness coordinator, Pete Steen, but he would be the first to say that there’s much more that we need to do as a community to really be prepared for an earthquake and tsunami and other disasters.
